Lady Midgets Golf Team Posts Strong Week of Competition

The Freeburg Lady Midgets golf team continued its busy 2026 season last week, with both the junior varsity and varsity squads competing in two matches while continuing to gain valuable experience heading into the heart of the season.
Freeburg hosted both JV and varsity competition on Monday, August 25, at Mystic Oak Golf Course.
The varsity team battled Mascoutah in a closely contested match, ultimately falling 196-199. Grace Burke led the way for the Lady Midgets with a 45, followed by Sophia Belding with a 47. Lexi Owen carded a 53, while Brynn Kisro finished with a 54.
While the varsity came up just short, the Freeburg JV squad put together an impressive performance in a tri-match against Waterloo and Mascoutah. The Lady Midgets posted a team score of 218 to earn the victory, defeating Waterloo’s 245 and Mascoutah’s 264.
Aryana Blomenkamp paced the JV with a 48, followed by Vayda Crites with a 53. Clara Carter added a 58, while Chloe Heuring rounded out the team’s top four with a 59.
The JV team returned to action Wednesday, August 27, traveling to The Legacy for a dual match against Father McGivney. Freeburg battled throughout the match but ultimately fell 253-257.
Olivia Thouvenot led the Lady Midgets with a 60, while Crites and Macy Spilker each carded a 63. Stella Daubach finished with a 71.
Meanwhile, the Freeburg varsity squad competed in the Goalby-Haas Invitational on August 27, finishing fifth overall in the tournament. Belding recorded Freeburg’s lowest score with a 48, while Blomenkamp, Kisro and Owen each finished with a 50.
With the season continuing to move quickly, the Lady Midgets entered another busy stretch of competition this week. The varsity squad traveled to Belk Park on Monday, August 31, to take on Roxana, Dupo, and Granite City. On Tuesday, September 1, Freeburg heads to The Acorns for a match against Waterloo, Triad, and Columbia before wrapping up the week on Wednesday, September 2, at North County Country Club against Red Bud.
With both squads gaining experience and multiple golfers contributing low scores, Freeburg will look to build on last week’s performances as the season progresses. The Lady Midgets’ combination of young talent, competitive experience and steady improvement should make for an exciting finish to the season as the team continues to work toward its post-season goals.
